The Noble Art of Embroidery

Last updated on 13th December 2021

As of Dec 15, the “Noble Salon” in the Theatre upstairs will be the stage for a new edition of displays of “Bordado” pieces. Several tables will be set for an elaborate Christmas meal, the kind of event the old “families” had in their Quintas at Christmas.

The “Bordal – Bordados da Madeira Lda” company arranged this exhibition for the 6th consecutive year, in collaboration with Funchal City Hall.

On Dec 14. members of the Government will mark the inauguration at 6pm (but not with sit-down dinner, we don’t want any stains on the delicate fabric).

Several government entities, five hotels and several artists and other local businesses contribute to the exhibition with exquisite pieces of embroidery, flowers, tableware and cutlery. Our star interior decorator Nini Andrade Silva and Sr. Dino Gonçalves are in charge of it all.

The exhibition is open until Jan 5, free entrance.
