MAMMA!

Last updated on 11th December 2021

This new museum opened in July this year; it is situated on Estrada Monumental 14, right after the Bridge leading to the hotel area. The Quinta you can see above, is called Quinta Nogueira.

Rui Sá of the well-known Sá family (they used to run supermarkets on the island and had many properties), used a space in the new building next to the old Quinta to install his works there. Around 300 pieces of his art and installations – innovative and audacious – are on display, grouped in 14 themes The visitor is lead through the areas of Water, Air, Earth and Fire and Spirit. It is a bit too full with pieces (and has much skin to show) but the impressions are great. The visitor faces a staircase which leads into Nothing and is compelled to ponder spiritual questions. It is not the only Modern Art Museum on the island but is quite enticing!

At the Entrance, visitors also find a nice little Museum Shop with pieces made by the artist but also products from Quinta Pedagogica in Prazeres. Opening times: not Monday, all the other days from 10 – 18, and Sunday half day.  Parking is in front at Estrada Monumental. Nice!
