Not so far away…

The Vulcan “Cumbre Vieja“ on the Island of La Palma is not giving a rest. Lava and ash eruptions, plus recurring earthquakes, started in Sept 21st of this year. The seismic activity is also coupled with “inflation”, meaning that the surface of the island is rising sometimes. Geologists can only measure the events and warn that more is to come.

The Vulcan has already destroyed hundreds of houses and displaced thousands of inhabitants who are steadily reminded of the danger by earthquakes.

We are lucky that our volcanic activity, which created Madeira Island, has stopped for good long time ago.
