Covid-19: Six MSC Passengers Test Positive

Regional health authorities stated this afternoon that six cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed among MSC Splendida passengers, as part of the mandatory testing of all passengers disembarking at the port of Funchal.

In turn, and as a result of these cases, 18 people were identified as ‘at risk contacts,’ and were quickly moved to an isolation hotel to await further testing.  A SESARAM spokesperson said that those who tested negative would be able to leave as soon as their test results were known. They further assured everyone that all SARS-CoV-2 health and safety rules were followed.

One passenger spoke to local media outlet JM, stating that not only were a vast majority of passengers refusing to wear a mask onboard, but the disembarkation process in Malaga and Barcelona had been a ‘complete mess.’
