Five crew members aboard a German-flagged sailboat, ‘Southern Changer,’ were assisted yesterday as engine problems left them stranded off the Desertas Islands.
The alert was received at 18:55 at the Funchal Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Subcenter (MRSC Funchal), who immediately dispatched a SANAS rescue team. Upon their arrival, they found that the five crew members were in good physical shape, and were not in need of any medical assistance. The sailboat was then towed into Funchal Harbour for repairs.
