Kazakhstan Ambassador Visits Madeira

Today the president of the Legislative Assembly of Madeira received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Portugal, Daulet Batrashev.  His Excellency, Daulet Batrashev took office in September 2019, but this has been his first opportunity of visiting the region due to the Covid-19 travel restrictions. The main aim of his visit was to become better acquainted with the reality and potential of the archipelago, as well as strengthen ties between Kazakhstan and Madeira.

In this sense, he expressed a desire to create, in the Madeiran capital, a consulate of Kazakhstan, as he believes that all the conditions exist to establish a collaborative relationship between Kazakhs and Madeirans, both economically and culturally.

Daulet Batrashev even spoke of the historical and even cultural similarities between Portugal and Kazakhstan, noting that the Portuguese and Kazakhs are both nomadic peoples; the first from sea and the second from land, and that both see family as an important fundamental value.

He went on to say that he has been desirous of visiting Madeira, any was only prevented from doing so because of the pandemic.  Furthermore, he said the geographical distance between Portugal and Kazakhstan would not affect the close ties that both countries share with each other.

The president of the Legislative Assembly of Madeira was fully available to strengthen the links with that territory and took the opportunity to outline the historical-cultural and political-constitutional profile of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, thanking the Ambassador for his courtesy visit. Next year marks 30 years of collaboration between Portugal and Kazakhstan, an event that the Embassy intends to commemorate with various events, two of which could take place in Funchal.

Before the meeting with the President of the Parliament, the Ambassador met with the President of ACIF, to discuss business possibilities between the two countries.

Kazakhstan is the ninth largest country in the world with 19 million inhabitants and 128 nationalities.
