Madeiran, Luís Miguel Ramos, who has lived on the island of La Palma for 27 years, watched helplessly as his house was consumed by lava this morning.
Born in Porto da Cruz, Luis spoke to RTP-Madeira this morning, saying that he had hoped that his house would be spared from the ravages of the volcano, but this was not to be.
In his radio interview he said that:
“I got up at 5 am this morning and everything was fine, an hour later, lava had destroyed my house.” He went on to say that “at the moment he can’t think straight, especially as he has lost everything. I know I have to move on” he said, ” but at the moment I don’t have the energy!”
He and his wife are currently staying with the family his wife works for.
Our thoughts are with everyone who is suffering from the La Palma natural disaster.
