On the 10th of August, the Associação Ajuda a Alimentar Cães rescued a female dog that had been abandoned and had been trapped inside a river since the 27th of July.
According to the association, the fire brigade attended the scene on the 28th of July at the request of local residents. However, they were unable to rescue the animal, and almost two weeks later ‘Bruninha’, as she was called, was still there. Technically, as soon as a situation like this is received by the fire brigade they have to attend the situation, and when as in Bruninha’s case, the rescue is unsuccessful, they have to return to the site until the situation is resolved. And this, state the association did not happen, and the only reason that the dog survived, is that local residents threw food down to her.
Risking life and limb, members of the charity performed a daring rescue and managed to capture the dog. Unfortunately, the dogs owner who lived close by refused to take her back and had subsequently ‘adopted’ a puppy on the day that Bruninha disappeared! This puppy was now in chains. Luckily, this to, was also rescued by the association.
Both were transported to veterinary clinics for care, and will later be put up for adoption.
