The Public Security Police (PSP) were called out on Saturday night to stop a violent argument between a couple, in Santo Amaro, Funchal. According to witness statements the man had come home drunk and had started abusing his wife.
Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse this morning as the woman returned home to pick up some clothes and essential items at the same time as her husband. In a rage he started threatening her again, and destroyed half of the house’s contents, including the front door.
The police were alerted to the situation, and the man was caught by Rapid Response Brigade (BIR) officers as he tried to flee the scene. His wife was taken immediately to hospital for treatment.
