The Machico Delegation of the Portuguese League Against Cancer will be holding a ‘Food in Oncology’ awareness campaign tomorrow at 3 pm.
The initiative, which includes speakers such as Dr. Teresa São Marques and Marta Moniz, will look at the importance of food within oncology, as well as dealing with the treatments side effects. Other topics will include the relationship between nutrition and cancer, the influence of treatments on the patient’s diet, and the benefits of a healthy diet before, during and after treatment.
Food tips and suggestions will also be given that can help minimise the impact of the side effects, the principles of healthy eating, as well as food hygiene to help reduce the risk of contracting infections caused by microorganisms that are already present in the food.
