An unprecedented episode that took place at the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital two days ago when parents tried to kidnap their baby.
According to a statement by SESARAM Board of Directors, Rafaela Fernandes, the two parents did not follow medical and nursing team guidelines, and tried to take their baby even though the infant’s discharge was dependent on a Social Service evaluation, after the child was referred to the Young Children at Risk Commission for assessment.
In the end the police had to be called to prevent the baby from being taken, until all possible risks have been assessed, and the child is formally discharged from hospital.
