A private lunch brought together the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and the President of the Regional Government of Madeira at Quinta Vigia today. On the table for discussion were topics including the International Business Centre, the Regional Finance Law and a possible revision of the Portuguese Constitution.
After arriving in Madeira on Saturday night, and having met the Representative of the Republic for Madeira, Ireneu Barreto at the São Lourenço Palace, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa gave up his usual morning swim this morning, opting instead for a short walk between his hotel and the Capela de Penha França, where he attended Mass, accompanied by Ireneu Barreto.
During his short walk he told reporters that official Portugal celebrations will be held in Madeira on the 10th of June, and that he intends to visit the region again a few days beforehand. When asked about the current curfew, he stressed that the curfew is imperative in protecting people’s lives.
After mass, accompanied by Miguel Albuquerque, he walked around the gardens of Quinta Vigia and appeared to be enjoying the views over the city the gardens afford.
