This weekend SANAS Madeira confirmed that they had received a “distress” call from a mother who, was unable to contact her son and feared the worst, as he had gone underwater fishing, somewhere off the north coast.
Via their social media outlets, SANAS Madeira stated that the mother had tried repeatedly to contact her son, and worried to death, phoned them asking for their assistance. Immediately, rescue teams from the Public and Maritime Security Police were mobilised to search the area and fortunately, the young man was eventually found on the southwest coast of the island early in the evening.
SANAS Madeira went on to say that their “rescue teams are prepared for unexpected situations.” However, they stressed that it was up to everyone who takes part in recreational activities and dangerous sports to try to avoid taking unnecessary risks, and ensure that they tell someone where they are going, and what time they expect to return.
