A woman has lodged a complaint against the Regional Health Service concerning the treatment received by her 81 year old father. Her father was admitted to the Dr Nélio Mendonça Hospital suffering from an “inguinal hernia” which makes it impossible for him to move or sleep.
Her complaint expressed her “deep discontent,” at the way her father’s case has been handled. The reason for this is that her father’s doctor informed them that he would not be operated on until 2022, but if she went private, he could have his operation on the 5th of February at 10.00 am. Her complaint, she said is that the doctor was pushing for her to go ‘private’ as he was attending a meeting with colleagues from a private hospital and her father could be conveniently slotted in.
When contacted by local newspaper, JM-Madeira, SESARAM confirmed receipt of the complaint and said that they were dealing with the matter internally.
On the flip side of this, my mother, whose insurance company refused to pay for her cancer treatment, was automatically taken from a private clinic to the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital by her specialist, where her treatment has been second to none.
