Madeira Free Zone – Inquiry Videoconference

The Eventual Inquiry Commission on ‘The Public Service Concession Contract” called “Administration and Exploration of the Madeira Free Zone (MFZ) or International Business Centre of Madeira (IBIC)” and the acquisition of share capital of “Sociedade de Desenvolvimento da Madeira, SA,” today unanimously approved the methodology by which the commission will hear evidence from four witnesses.

During a videoconference meeting this afternoon, the chairman of the Inquiry Commission stated that “at the request of the Socialist Party (PS), Rui Gonçalves (former Regional Secretary of Finance and Public Administration), Paulo Prada (president of the Madeira Development Society) and Pedro Calado (Vice President of the Regional Government of Madeira) will be questioned.”

António Lopes da Fonseca added that “at the request of the Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP), the President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, will also be questioned.  The JPP and PS have also asked for “a set of documentation that will be requested from the entities” which must be delivered to the Madeiran parliament within 15 days.

Only after all the information has been collected will the hearings take place to provide clarification to the Inquiry Commission.
