Several drug raids took place in the early hours of this morning (23.09) throughout Funchal, as several teams of Public Security Police and Criminal Investigation Officers raided homes and business premises as part of a coordinated operation between local police forces throughout the island.
In addition to several people being arrested, cars, money, motorcycles and narcotics were also seized. It is also believed that a police officer could be involved in the drug ring.
Further developments released on the 24th, indicate that 20 people have been detained on suspicion of drug trafficking, including a PSP agent.
This is one of the largest drug raids for several years.
