The Portuguese Red Cross (CVP) were called out to a hotel in Funchal over the weekend, after a 41-year-old male UK citizen, slashed his wrists while waiting for his Covid test results. The injuries were so severe, that he bled into several towels as he attempted to stop the bleeding, as the unknown weapon used sliced into the radial artery.
According to a hospital spokesperson, the man was immediately transferred to the Covid screening area at the Dr Nélio Mendonça hospital. The same source says that his condition was serious and he was under observation and being treated as a ‘possible’ Covid case, especially as he had arrived from the UK.
The Public Security Police and a hospital psychiatric team are currently trying to understand what triggered the incident.
