Justino’s Madeira Wine Company recently competed in the 27th ‘Mundus Vini Summer Tasting’ contest at Neustadt an der Weinstrasse in Germany, with their 10-year-old Madeira Verdelho, which was awarded a gold medal for excellence.
The competition involved 120 judges who awarded a total of 13 ‘Grand Gold’ medals, 920 Gold and 848 Silver.
It should be noted that the ‘Mundus Vini’ is one of the most important wine tasting competitions in Germany. In a statement, a spokesperson for Justino’s stated that “as Germany is an important market for Madeira wine, winning a prize at this level in an international competition is very important for our company.”
The Mundus Vini Gold is awarded to wines with more than 90 points. Each is evaluated by a panel of tasters comprising specialist traders, sommeliers, specialised journalists, etc.) and are considered wines of excellent quality.
On average a maximum of 30% of wines are awarded one of these prestigious medals.
