The initial monitoring results of the GIRO Project – Project to Enhance the Protected Area of Cabo Girão – collected by the Insular Association of Geography (AIG) in partnership with the Forest and Nature Conservation Institute, IP-RAM and Câmara, are now available.
This project, financed by community funds, is part of a territorial management project which aims to balance economic development and environmental sustainability, based on knowledge, evaluation, protection and the promotion of local resources.
The most recent Monitoring Report (including 2019 data) provides the first figures and actions developed by the project, including the creation of a Monitoring System in a Protected Area, an analysis and monitoring tool currently comprising of seventy-six indicators. It is also the first indicator monitoring system applied to any protected area in the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
