1,143 women are expected to attend the Breast Cancer screenings held in Porto Santo, with 63 completed so far. As the island’s slowly resume a post Covid-19 normality, breast cancer screenings have resumed across the region with:
– 321 screening have been carried out since the 18th of May in Canhas, Ponta do Sol.
– 128 screenings have been carried out since the 23rd of May at the Agostinho Cardoso Center, São Martinho .
In Madeira, breast cancer screening is available to all women aged between 45 and 69 years old, unlike the continent, where it is only available to women aged between 50 and 69 years old.
During the period 2017 – 2019, some 40,962 women were called forward to attend screening sessions, ensuring that the chances of surviving breast cancer through early detection rose to 85%.
