Family Owned Rum Business Wins Two Gold Medals

A small family business distilling brandy, rum, liqueurs and gin, based in Gaula, Santa Cruz, has won two gold medals at the China Wines and Spirits Awards (CWSA) held in Hong Kong. With a panel of around one hundred tasters chosen from importers, distributors and retailers, the CWSA is the largest organisation of its kind in the world.

The company, Florentino Izildo G. Ferreira, producers of RUM (OREIZINHO), has been competing successfully for several years in Santarém, London and now Hong Kong.  On  hearing the news a spokesperson for the company said “although we represent little more than one percent of the sugar cane processing industry in Madeira, RUM (OREIZINHO) has been recognised as a quality product at an international level, which is why we are exporting to the United Kingdom, France and Luxembourg and Italy and Belgium may soon be added to this list.”
