The European Week Against Cancer Campaign ran from the 25th to the 31st of May and aimed to raise cancer prevention and treatment awareness as well as support for survivors. In Madeira, the Portuguese League Against Cancer are running this campaign and as part of this activity are challenging the local community to 48 hours of physical activity between the 6th and 7th of June with participants either walking, running, swimming or cycling (indoor, road or mountain biking) as a way of showing how important exercise is in the prevention of cancer.
Taking part is easy. All you have to do is log onto the Portuguese League Against Cancer website, access their online registration form, confirm which activity you want to take part in and whether you have an account ‘Strava’ with the charity. If you do, your contribution, i.e distance travelled, will be recorded automatically and if not, you will need to complete a second form and send a photograph to prove that you have completed the mileage stated.
You can take part as many times as you like over the two days and there is a surprise prize for the participant in each sport who travels the furthest distance.
The collective aim of this event is to reach 5000 collective km (# 5000) and challenge several companies to join in by sending donations that will equal or better the number of kilometres travelled.
