The European Commission will purchase up to 665,000 doses of Segirus vaccine to prevent human contagion with bird flu to strengthen prevention in Portugal and 14 other participating member states.

Yesterday, the 3rd of October, the regions health centres began their second phase of the Influenza Vaccination Campaign, which started in September with the vaccination of those in institutionalised care, health care professionals, and those working in social institutions, and are now expanding the role out to the rest of the population.
The Regional Secretary for Health and Civil Protection, Pedro Ramos, admitted today mask wearing in health centres etc. will remain in force for the foreseeable future, or at least until the end of the winter season.
Up until Sunday, the 14th of August, the number of vaccines administered in Madeira stood at 537,264, five hundred and fifty-two more than the previous week.
According to a brief statement, Madeira will receive, 7,000 Johnson & Johnson vaccines on the 2nd of July.
The good news is that more than 40,950 Pfizer vaccines arrived in Madeira this morning. The vaccines are currently stored at the SESARAM Pharmacy Service.
The 100,000th vaccine was administered today at the Madeira Technopolo.
The Regional Government remains confident that it will achieve it's 70% vaccination target by September.

After all the 'Who Hah!' about 17,500 vaccines arriving on a TAP flight last night, it would appear that there has been an accountancy failure as only 11,500 arrived.
This afternoon 17,500 Covid -19 vaccines arrived in Madeira. The vaccines will be stored at Madeira's International Airport overnight, and then transported to the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital tomorrow morning. They are scheduled to arrive at the hospital at 9 am.
The first five people to be vaccinated were Adérito Delgado (ambulance crew), Ana Patricia da Silva, (operational assistant) João Caires (nurse), Pedro Balza (doctor) and Ludovina Teixeira (technician).
On the 26th of December a new Portuguese vaccine portal was launched which aims to provide the population with “all the details” concerning the new vaccine campaign which started on the mainland on Sunday, the 27th of December.
While inspecting the damage in Ponta Delgada on Boxing Day, The President of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque said that he is convinced that the island's Covid-19 vaccination programme will start before the end of the year, especially as the vaccines are due to arrive tomorrow, the 28th of December.
