At 6 pm on the 31st of March, outside Quinta Vigia, the recently formed Regional Commission Against the Increase in Prices, will hold a protest against rising fuel prices in the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
While on the mainland there is a strong expectation that fuel prices will fall sharply next week, it will not be the case in Madeira, as fuel prices are expected to increase by at least 10.7 cents per litre.
As of lunchtime today, queues at petrol stations were beginning to lengthen, and as the end of the day approaches, and with the announced fuel hikes that come into effect from midnight tonight, long queues have been observed across the capitals petrol stations.
Despite Rui Barreto's assurances that fuel prices per litre in Madeira are at least 24 cents cheaper than the mainland, petrol is set to rise by 7 cents per litre as of midnight tonight.
