Talking to reporters this morning, the President of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque said that 'For now, Christmas is still not at risk, due to the sudden increase in Covid-19 cases in recent days.'

Tomorrow the greatest pyrotechnic show of the year will take place, and for those who are unable to see the show from their homes, a new limited safety firework display square will be allocated to families.
According to Marco Costa, CEO of 'Henrique Costa & Filhos (Pyrotechnic Company), everything is ready for the year-end firework display in Madeira, although the 59 firework locations' (57 in Funchal and 2 in Porto Santo) will only be installed tomorrow.
With everything gearing up for the end of year firework display, the cruise liner Mein Schiff 3 is currently moored off the coast of Ponta do Sol, with approximately 67 crew members on board.
Two cruise liners, the 'Mein Schiff 3' and the MS Europa 2 (Hapag LLoyd Cruise Liners) are scheduled to arrive, but remain outside the port of Funchal, in time for the New Year Firework Display.
Regarding the end of the year celebrations, Miguel Albuquerque confirmed that all bars will close at 01:00 on the 1st of January.
The Madeira Tourism Secretary said today (27th), that tenders for the traditional Christmas and New Year celebrations in the region have already been launched, but the programmes will be adapted to ensure that all safety regulations are met, stated the Secretary for Tourism and Culture, Eduardo Jesus. While celebrating World Tourism Day, he said, “We have already launched the contests and we have some surprises in store for Madeira during the Christmas period and the End of Year celebrations.”
