A thousand street lights will go out tonight between 20:00 and 23:00 in five municipalities of Madeira, as part of a campaign to protect Cory's Shearwaters from excessive artificial light.
In order to save the life of Madeira's seabirds on the 30th of October, a thousand street lamps will be turned off between 8 pm and 11 pm.
The Funchal City Council has joined the 'Save a Seabird' campaign, which started on the 15th of October and runs until the 15th of November, with the aim of helping seabirds who are victims of light pollution in Madeira.
