The leadership of SITAM (Union of Office, Commerce and Services Workers of the Autonomous Region of Madeira) proposed this morning, at the Funchal City Hall, the closure of traditional commerce for 10 days in December, along with another four half days.

The Madeira delegation of the Trade, Office and Services Workers Union of Portugal (CESP), spoke out today against the proposed collective bargaining agreement for the sector, considering it to be “much more unfavourable” than the current one.
Ivo Silva, the Chairman of the Board of the Union of Office, Commerce and Services Workers of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (SITAM), has indicated that the Câmara of Funchal is indifferent “to the problems that affect three thousand workers, and has proposed that during the Christmas season retail establishments should close at 7 pm on weekdays, at 2 pm on Saturdays and not open at all on Sundays or public holidays.”
