With the sudden spate of pickpocketing and thieving up at Cabo Girão viewpoint, many believe that thieves are dressing themselves up to look like tourists, therefore, creating an atmosphere of trust as well as using their cover to identify 'easy targets.'
As of now, all those visiting the Cabo Girão viewpoint, which receives half a million visitors annually, will have to pay a €1.50 entrance fee.
Regional Secretary for Finance, Rogério Gouveia, has confirmed to local news outlet, JM, that the Regional Government is considering the possibility of charging an entrance fee to access the Cabo Girão viewpoint.
