The Regional Directorate for the Sea recently took part in a marine cleaning initiative organised by Clube Naval do Funchal (CNF), and included in this a number of Blue Flag and Marina do Funchal programme of activities.
The Regional Director of the Sea, Mafalda Freitas, alongside fellow researcher Filipe Henriques and Spanish intern of the Eurodyssey programme, Mariona Pineda, all took part in the initiative. Mariona Pineda has been employed as an intern by the Regional Directorate of the Sea since the 28th of September 2020, to study the waters surrounding Madeira while collaborating in the creation of a didactic magazine, entitled “Porto Santo Under Water.” She is also researching the biodiversity of the waters surrounding Porto Santo, being responsible for preparing the descriptive texts of the main marine species of Porto Santo in bilingual (PT-EN) .
Mariona Pineda, will also actively participate in the coordination of the Encontro do Mar, where she will attend the various meetings with the competent entities and scientists from the Autonomous Region of Madeira as well as further her training in marine biology both practical and theoretical.
