In a statement sent to local newspaper, JM, the Judiciary Police (JP) has confirmed that in conjunction with the National Anti-Corruption Unit (UNCC), and the Madeira Criminal Investigation Department (Madeira CID), they have carried out several searches in four parishes, including Ponta do Sol, in Madeira to collect evidence concerning the suspected financing of the PS-Madeira through direct adjustments made between these municipalities and ghost companies.
Media Network TVI has reported that the president of PS-Madeira and ex-mayor of Funchal, Paulo Cafôfo, is suspected of several breaches of conduct, including passive corruption, economic participation in business, malfeasance (wrong doing), and abuse of power. In addition, officials from two other chambers in the region, as well as civil construction entrepreneurs and advertising and marketing companies are being investigated.
The criminal process, which is directed by the Department of Investigation and Penal Action of Lisbon, was initiated following an anonymous complaint, made on the Attorney General for the Republic (PGR) platform.
