Last Saturday’s small animal ‘Vac and Chip’ campaign, which includes deworming, rabies vaccination and ID chip and registration of cats and dogs was a success, says a spokesperson for the Ribeira Brava Town Hall.
The initiative, carried out for the third year running, took place in the parishes of Ribeira Brava and Serra de Água. In Ribeira Brava 323 pets (128 cats and 195 dogs) were vaccinated and in Serra de Água 35 (12 cats and 23 dogs).
Talking about the initiative, the Mayor of Ribeira Brava emphasised that “the animal welfare is a priority of the municipality, stressing that the Veterinary Campaign which is free, costs around 2 to 13 thousand euros per year.”
This year, surprisingly, there were more people attending the sessions than in previous years, in fact they had twice as many registrations compared to 2019. Growth, which many believe, shows that people are becoming more aware of pet health, not only for the animals themselves, but also for public safety in general.
The veterinary team will in Tabua and Campanário on the 3rd of October.
