A Third of School Children Leave After Year 12

A survey of secondary school students has shown that almost a third do not intend to remain in school after Year 12 with many citing financial reasons as the cause.

During the 2018/2019 academic year, 68.4% of 12th grade students who were surveyed by the Regional Secretary for Education, Science and Technology, wanted to continue studying after completing their 12th grade, indicating that 31.6 of youngsters leave at this point.

Although financial considerations are clearly an important consideration, we should not forget that some students may not wish to continue their academic studies as they are more suited or drawn to practical skills which can be acquired in the workplace.
