This year, due to the pandemic situation and the consequent health measures determined by the health authority, today, the 10th of June Portugal Day celebrations were a little simpler.
The ceremony started with the hoisting of the national flag at the São Lourenço Palace, followed by a tribute to all the Portuguese communities scattered around the world, especially Madeirans, as flowers from different organisations were laid at the Madeiran Emigrant Monument. This was then followed by a further ceremony which took place in the Salão Nobre of the Palace of São Lourenço which, in view of the current constraints, was not open to the general public.
Below is a brief video of this morning’s event.
