A man of Russian or Ukrainian nationality is suspected of several thefts in commercial establishments in Funchal, using a scheme that has already deceived several merchants within the city and others elsewhere.
Just this morning, in the Carmo and Bom Jesus area, in the heart of Funchal, a reader and owner of an establishment sent the JM newsroom a photograph in which it is possible to identify the presumed perpetrator of the thefts circulating in that area. According to testimonies collected by the newspaper, the suspect alternates between wearing a cap or remaining bareheaded. Some merchants even report that the man puts on his cap when entering the stores, in an apparent attempt to make it difficult to identify him.
JM also found that the PSP has already distributed the suspect’s image to the various police units. However, the police will only be able to arrest him if a formal complaint is filed or if he is caught in the act.
As yet, there is no information regarding the man or whether he has been questioned by the authorities.
