The Portuguese Institute of Atmosphere and Sea (IPMA) says that the frontal swells associated with depression Leonardo will affect the weather in the archipelago of Madeira until Friday, the 6th of February, especially the western part of the island of Madeira, becoming more intense and widespread throughout the archipelago from dawn tomorrow.
The wind, from the west quadrant, will be more intense on the night of Wednesday to Thursday and Friday, and may in this period “reach gusts of up to 95 km/h, especially in the highlands,” says the IPMA statement.
The sea agitation will remain strong, particularly on the north coast, temporarily decreasing between Wednesday morning and Thursday morning, with waves expected to rise from 4 to 5 metres to 5 and 7 metres during Thursday afternoon.
As reported today by DIÁRIO, this situation led to the issuance of weather warnings of orange and yellow levels for sea agitation and wind gusts, and a yellow warning for rain may also be raised from tonight until tomorrow.
