Three foreign citizens, two men and a woman, parachuted from the Porto Novo Bridge, in Gaula, this morning (Sunday, the 4th of January).
After the jump, the three individuals were apprehended by the Public Security Police (PSP). The authorities also managed to prevent other foreigners, who were at the site, from jumping.
The PSP remained on site to monitor the situation and take necessary steps.
Unsurprisingly, the reactions to this incident have been full of outrage, with many calling for hefty fines and deportation for those involved. Some blame the government for being too lenient with tourists, saying the island is notorious for its lack of governance and rules. Others joked sarcastically that the jump happened simply because the island doesn’t have enough golf courses!
