The PSP today suspended the search for the 31-year-old Polish tourist, missing since Monday in the mountains of Madeira. However, they will resume their search tomorrow.
In a written response sent to Lusa, the PSP says that “the necessary steps have been exhausted on the existing pedestrian routes in the cell triangulation area,” thus justifying the decision to call a halt to today’s search.
The police add that at the moment “an assessment of the existing escarpments in the areas where pedestrian access is possible, even if outside the recommended trails, is being carried out for descent practicalities and/or use of drones by the PSP search and rescue brigade.”
On Tuesday, the PSP indicated that it was searching an area of Levada dos Tornos, “the last area of cellular triangulation of the missing man’s cell phone.” However, Levada dos Tornos is the longest levada route in the autonomous region, over 100 kilometers in length and traversing several municipalities.
