The Regional Command of the PSP carried a series of inspection in the early hours of Sunday morning of about 80 vehicles in the Poiso area, on the suspicion of participating in illegal races. The suveillance led to the siezure of seven cars.
“The operation was planned based on anonymous complaints as well as publications on social networks, which scheduled a meeting of cars and drivers in Poiso.
This approach allowed police units in the region to focus their traffic inspection resources effectively. Using the element of surprise, they stopped several vehicles and issued 43 notices for administrative offenses, including 22 minor infractions, 1 serious infraction, and 20 very serious infractions, according to the press note.
The PSP also said that the “total value of the fines applied, if paid voluntarily, is close to 5 thousand euros, having highlighted the following infractions:
– 7 vehicles were seized for alteration of characteristics (fine of €250 to €1250);
3 failures of Mandatory Periodic Inspection (fine of €250 to €1250);
– 1 for handling the mobile phone while driving (fine from €250 to €1250);
– 2 for lack of documents;
– 26 for improper parking;
– 1 for failure to wear a seat belt;
– 2 for lack of reflective vest
– 1 infraction related to the exercise of rent-a-car activity.
According to the PSP, there were also about 200 spectators at the scene many of whom were eagerly anticipating the fast, the furious and the dangerous.
The Regional Command of PSP Madeira made a point of reiterating “the commitment to supervise these illicit activities, which jeopardise road safety as well as the life and physical integrity of all those who participate and/or assist in them.”
