In January, during a visit to Madeira, Pedro Portugal Gaspar, the President of the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA), announced plans to process 700 renewal applications by June. In September, reporters from the local newspaper JM reached out to check the current status of resident card renewals in Madeira. Now, a month later, AIMA still hasn’t responded to their inquiry.
Attempts to contact AIMA through phone or email have been unsuccessful. For instance, last Thursday at 14:30, a reporter called the AIMA portal number. Selecting the ‘more information’ option ended the call, and choosing ‘appointments’ redirected the caller to the AIMA website (www.aima.gov.pt), which stated that ‘services are closed.’
