The People’s Monarchist Party (PPM) has issued a statement confirming the existence of an illegal care home operating in Funchal. The home in question has received an order to cease activity from the Institute of Social Services, but has already received an order to close from Social Security, yet it continues to welcome the elderly.
PPM candidate Paulo Brito has issued a statement:
“From what we have learned, the home does not comply with the legal requirements necessary to care for the elderly, such as a nursing team to control medication for its users. There is no support team for the elderly or night monitoring services, among many other failures. The state of the home has been decried by those staying there.
The party expresses disappointment that Social Security has only issued a closure order for the home, without taking any action to alleviate the suffering of its residents. “From the images they shared with us, this place can only to described as a Home of Horrors, considering the way these elderly individuals are being treated,” cites the party representative.
The PPM also reports that their colleagues contacted the person responsible for the home and asked about fees. They were “informed by the director that she did not issue an invoice for services provided, and if we wanted a monthly receipt, we would have to pay more to cover the cost of the taxes. This is laughable, states Paulo, not only is it an illegal home, but it’s quite blatant in admitting to tax evasion.
The regional coordinator of the party asks the various institutions – Social Security, ARAE, and Tax Authority – for a quick and effective inspection action and to rescue the elderly who, “according to the photographs, are Dantesque and show the suffering that these elderly people go through daily.
