ARAE Recalls IKEA Garlic Press

The Regional Authority for Economic Activities (ARAE) has advised that an IKEA product has been recalled as it poses a potential risk to public health. At issue is the IKEA 365+ VÄRDEFULL black garlic press, reference 201.521.58.  Unfortuneately, due to a defect, small metal parts can become detached from the press and be accidentally ingested in food.

The recall campaign comes after an internal investigation by the brand itself, which identified a production error in certain batches of the product. IKEA Portugal voluntarily reported the situation to the Directorate-General for Consumers (DGC), within the scope of the European Safety Gate system – Early Warning for Dangerous Non-Food Products, which, in turn, informed ARAE.

According to the information provided, the problem can cause internal or external injuries if the parts come loose and are ingested. So far, no incidents reported in Portugal have been disclosed, but the company has opted for preventive action, urging consumers to return the product immediately.
