On the route between Pico Ruivo and Pico do Areeiro, a group of tourists disrespected the safety rules by jumping a fence, even ignoring recommendations from a guide on site.
When alerted to the infraction and asked by the guide if they had no respect for Madeira and local rules, the group responded with disdain, stating “do what you want!” The incident was filmed and then sent to local newspaper, JM.
There have been several cases of disrespect for danger/no entry signs imposed by the regional authorities, which increases the risk of accidents and tragedies on the walking routes around the island.
