60 Kilos of Seed Collected

The Regional Secretary for Agriculture, Fisheries, and Environment, Rafaela Fernandes joined the team of volunteers from the Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN), in a seed collection initiative on Saturday morning at Fonte do Bispo and Bica da Cana.

Volunteers from the scout movement, sportsmen, digital nomads, tourists, and residents came together to collect seeds for the Santa Forest Nursery (Porto Moniz), where the seeds will be processed and packaged for reforestation and ecological restoration actions.

On the occasion, Rafaela Fernandes, who was at Bica da Cana, thanked the daily work of IFCN employees and highlighted the importance of community participation in this initiative.

The President of the IFCN, Manuel Filipe, made it known that about 70 people were present. This demonstrates people’s commitment to a forest campaign that aims to increase the availability of genetic material for reforestation and sowing actions.

This seed collection operation is one of several actions that the IFCN has developed to recover some of the burned areas.
