An Investigation Does Not Mean A Conviction

The President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, reacted this Wednesday to the mega-operation of the Judiciary Police in the Region.

In a press statement, he reiterated:

“As I said yesterday, the Government is fully available to collaborate, as it has always had, with all investigations. An investigation is not an accusation, much less a conviction, so people have the right to be heard, to clarify what is in the complaint. I am convinced that this came from a complaint, now the rest is to know whether the complaint is justified or not. And it is essential, therefore, that the investigation runs smoothly.  We as a Government will face this latest development in a calm and dignified way.”

The governor also says that the accusations aim to discredit the institutions.

“But it is still a little strange that at this moment there are a set of anonymous complaints against Government bodies and with eminently political objectives. These anonymous complaints are recurrent. We have had, over the last few years, a set of complaints made with political objectives, with the sense of discrediting the Government, but it is not about my Government, I think they are acts of political litigation that aim, in essence, to discredit the institutions and above all the Governments,” he explained.

Moreover, Miguel Albuquerque does not believe in irregularities in financing.

“At this moment I am convinced that, in relation to what has been alleged, I don’t know, about the financing, there is no financing from any company, much less this company, that is outside the legality, because, as you know, nowadays the campaigns are scrutinised by agents of the Constitutional Court, the accounts are approved, and at the moment there is no party, within the framework of its democratic responsibility, it should risk running a political campaign that is not within the legal framework,” he explained.
