After being seized by the GNR Bores the Desert Lynx, was finally returned home but in a state that left him hovering between life and death for the last few days denounced the Association Ajuda Alimentar a Cães a País.
In a post on Instagram, the association says that Bores has not recovered since the day he “was sedated by a tranquilizing dart so that he could be returned home.”
According to the publication, the animal “arrived home sedated and for more than a day did not wake up and was taken to an emergency veterinary clinic.”
“Since that day there have been several attempts to return him home but the state of health has only deteriorated as he has been unable to walk and eat and today he stopped responding to any stimulus.
The association reveals that the family, together with a lawyer, are already ascertaining responsibilities.
Sadly, it was reported this evening that Bores died this afternoon.
I hope lessons will be learned and that the case is thoroughly investigated.
Those responsible have not only killed a magnificent Lynx they have destroyed a family through their callous behaviour. No animal does well when it is taken away from those it loves, especially as Bores appeared to be caged in an abandoned car park. Bores is a sentient being who was loved and adored by his family and was probably suffering from extreme stress and anxiety. Furthermore, older cats do not do well under sedation.
A risk assessment should have been carried out and Bores should have been allowed to remain with his family, the situation accurately assessed and measures put in place to ensure his safety and that of the residents around him.
