A North American citizen living in Madeira fell 50 metres at the Achada farm, next to the new cemetery of Porto da Cruz.
The man, who is in his 60s, fell into an abyss and immediately suffered a heart attack. On arrival at the scene several emergency service personnel, including teams from the EMIR and Municipal Firefighters of Machico, worked tirelessly to rescue and revive the man.
He was later taken to hospital.
