Chef Octávio Freitas won his first Michelin Star today.
When he received the award, he dedicated it to Madeira and the Madeirans, and also to all those who assist him daily.
A true Madeiran, the award winning Desarma Restaurant (The Views Baía) chef, says that it is possible to have a beautiful career with great professionals, without leaving Madeira.
Reid’s Palace’s William Restaurant has retained its Michelin star, which is now under the leadership of José Diogo Costa, their creative executive chef since last year.
It should be remembered that ‘William’ entered the Michelin constellation through the work of Madeiran chef Luís Pestana, in 2016, just 16 months after its opening.
The new chef, José Diogo Costa, was born in Funchal and has worked in Oslo, the Azores, Chile, and Thailand.
“His culinary journey includes the remarkable success of the Azores Wine Company, where he was acclaimed for his creativity and excellence. The achievement of this star is the culmination of the recognition of these qualities of his,” underlines Belmond Reid’s Palace in a statement.
The new chef’s entry accompanied the restaurant’s ‘restyling’ process.
“William Restaurant continues to be a beacon of gastronomic excellence in Madeira. With chef José Diogo Costa at the helm, we are confident that the restaurant will continue to delight and surprise our customers, offering truly unforgettable experiences,” said Ciriaco Campus, General Manager of Reid’s Palace.
