Officers from the Funchal Prison Establishment Tactical Unit sought the re-capture of an inmate who had been, since Friday, on short-term jurisdictional leave and who should have returned to prison on Sunday.
Faced with the individual failing to show up at the prison facilities at the designated time, the Tactical Unit team went out into the streets searching for him. It wasn’t too difficult, as the 48-year-old man was found next to the Duas Mil 2000 building consuming drugs and hanging out with ex-convicts.
The recapture took place at 20:00, and the prisoner, who is serving his third sentence (the first two for drug trafficking) and the last for domestic violence, has now been placed in the prison’s security wing.
