The cash discovered by the Judicial Police (PJ) at the residence of the Mayor of Funchal belonged to his wife, according to his lawyer.
During the initial searches, various national media reported that PJ inspectors found 20,000 euros in banknotes at Pedro Calado’s house and another 10,000 euros at his mother’s house. Amounts that belong to his wife, who is a doctor, accumulated in the exercise of her profession.
Responding to the inaccuracies of the press, Pedro Calado’s lawyer, Paulo Sá e Cunha refused to comment on the situation, but later conceded that he would clarify the situation.”
Regarding Pedro Calado’s state of mind, the lawyer said, “he has been looking at all the documentation, at the evidence, and is currently preparing his statements.”
