With thousands of people attending Market Night, the task of rubbish collection is no mean feat. However, this year, the Mayor of Funchal, Pedro Calado, said that despite the increased number of people attending the event, the amount of rubbish collected by 09:00 was two tonnes lower than last year.
The Mayor of Funchal also highlighted that the traditional music delighted Madeirans and foreigners, but his main emphasis is on sustainability.
The clean-up started at 06:00 and continued to 20:00 involving approximately 130 refuse collectors
